Random note: Ned briefly (albeit for one episode) starred in his own series called "The Adventures of Ned Flanders" complete with a theme song. He is also left handed and, thus, runs a left-handed store called "The Leftorium."ĭespite being a good guy, Homer Simpson cannot stand Ned and constantly refers to him as "a stupid jerk." He is in his early 60s and claims his deceptively youthful appearance is due to his conformity to the "clean living, chewing thoroughly, and a daily dose of vitamin church!" Physically, Ned is very muscular and apparently well-endowed below the belt. Maude died a few years ago in a freak accident at Springfield Raceway, leaving Ned a widower. Ned was married to Maude Flanders and father to Rod and Todd. But once he had undergone a week's worth of spankings, Ned grew accustomed to supressing his anger. He considers some of his greatest sins to be a run-in with a police officer who mistakenly identified him as Ed Flanders and the time he had an alcoholic beverage and, in a "drunk" stupor, called Ann Landers a "boring old bitty."
He is a devout Christian and faithfully follows the Bible as literally as possible and is easily shocked when challenged on any point of dogma. Ned is an overly religious character who can be timid and something of a pushover. In this case, we have Springfield's most famous neighbor-ino, Ned Flanders. However, that incident was done in a sequence portraying Homer's Odyssey.Įvery sitcom family needs to have a unique neighbor who doesn't overshadow the main characters, but is capable of standing out nonetheless. Random note: Despite his marriage to Selma and at one point hitting on Marge, Stu's sexuality was left in question one episode when he also hit on Bart. He had his marriage annulled by Pope John Paul II. Like so many other characters, Stu at some point married Selma Bouvier. During a taxi confession, Stu explained he was not really a fan of disco and that it had consumed his life. Unfortunately, it was revealed several years ago that his persona is actually a facade. But once he heard the sweet sounds of disco, he turned into the character we know and love. He originally had aspirations to be a sea captain and was going to go by the name of Nautical Stu. Many of his comments come in the third person, including his very first line, the infamous "Disco Stu, doesn't advertise." He wears a white, rhinestone leisure suit a la Saturday Night Fever, sun glasses and a big fro. These days, however, whenever the episode airs on syndication, that three-word sentence rings a bell in all the minds of Simpsons fans.ĭisco Stu is, or was, Springfield's biggest disco fan. In the meantime, I’m so grateful she was able to capture these moments of me with my girls and me alone, just being in the midst of it all. The other day we had a play date with a new special friend, Morgan, and her beautiful daughter. It’s really nice to take a moment and see myself, in the midst of it all. Life can be so crazy as an adult, partner and parent. But when I look back and find the rare photo of me with my girls or the even more rare pic of me alone, I take pause and sort of gaze. I rarely do my hair and I don’t have to worry I’m still in my pjs surrounded by a major crafting session. As a blogger and obsessive photo taker, it’s rare that I’m ever in the picture myself.
